U311: BIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY OF HAEMOSTASIS AND THROMBOSIS (Director: Dr Christian Gachet)
Blood platelets play a major role in the occurrence and extension of the arterial thrombosis which frequently complicates atherosclerosis and leads to the occlusion of vessels.
The consequences, often dramatic, are myocardial infarction, a cerebral vascular accident or ischemia of the lower limbs, depending on the case. The principal topics of U311 centre around the adhesive functions of platelets, their activation by nucleotide receptors, experimental thrombosis, transfusion therapy and haemorrhagic models, clinical haemostasis and thrombosis and transfusion medicine. The group is composed of thirty persons, physicians, pharmacists, biologists, engineers and technicians. The laboratory is an approved institution for studies leading to the Diplomas (DEA) of Pharmacology and Pharmaco-chemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Haemostasis and Thrombosis of the University Paris VII and Transplantation de Besançon.
