The research at EFS-Alsace centres around two INSERM teams, UMR-S949 , “Biology and Pharmacology of Haemostasis and Thrombosis”

, directed by Dr Christian Gachet and UMR-S725, “Biology of Human Dendritic Cells”, directed by Dr Daniel Hanau. The work is multidisciplinary and carried out in close collaboration with the University Louis Pasteur, the University Hospital of Strasbourg and the Etablissement Français du Sang (EFS).

U311The broad aim of UMR-S949 is to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms, normal and pathological, which are involved in haemostasis and thrombosis, in man and in experimental models in animals.

U725UMR-S725 is especially interested in intracellular traffic and antigen presentation by dendritic cells.

Part of the activity of the two groups is likewise devoted to transfusion research and medicine. A wide range of technical equipment is available, including two nucleic acid sequencers, a light cycler, a proteomic laboratory, a BiAcore system, flow cytometers, an intravital microscopy system for experimental thrombosis in small animals, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and modern animal facilities with a capacity of about 6000 mice.
